When I was in around 4th grade, my school showed “The Haunting” (1963) in our gym for halloween. Literally gave me nightmares.
I always say the scariest movie I’ll ever see is “Jaws”. Though not really a child (I was 12), no film could ever scare me as much. I’d get freaked out swimming in lake Michigan that summer…

An example would be if you believe that Dick Cheney was pulling the strings in the Bush Administration, then he was the de facto leader of the country while Bush was the de jure leader.

Posted by Shayna | November 5, 2011, 7:55 PMI loved being reminded of It’s Alive. I rented it as a kid entirely because of the VHS cover of the claws hanging out the side of a carriage. Also, it’s really funny how Anderson can’t seem to stop thinking about Valhalla Rising – it tends to have that effect. I personally love the film, but I’d never recommend it to anyone who doesn’t have a solid background knowledge of Norse mythology, or who isn’t interested in such things.

Vivid memories of great horror movies watched as a child (luckily during the light of day). But one movie in particular really bugged me out: War of the Gargantuans. Brown monster was the “good” monster, green was the evil one. Recalling the scene where the green monster is looking up from below the water still terrifies me.

Felt like I needed to share a horror film I just stumbled across on a netfuck’s instant recommendation. The Girl Next Door from 07, not the garbage comedy from 04. Crazy, and apparently somewhat true, story set in the “mind your own business” 1950s.

Maybe I am a different age group but although many movies freaked me out for a short time, the one movie that scarred me well into adulthood was by far Jaws. Corny now of course but as a sheltered child, who was not allowed to see hardly any movies and snuck over to a friends to watch it, it was burned into the dark recesses of my child mind. I would have panic attacks every time we went into any body of water most of my childhood. I live in Florida now and I am still nervous in the ocean. I love dark, twisted, wrong movies now and am so desensitized so it is very difficult to touch that nerve but Jaws did long-term physiological damage.

It came out in the 70’s and I vaguely recall an ice cream truck scene, but yeah – just the title alone scared me as a kid – reacting similarly to The Human Centipede. Poltergeist was crazy scary back when and really good and so was Creepshow. Again, Anderson you nailed it with the creature in the crate. Thanks for what you do guys.

When I was 10 he took me AND A FRIEND to see Cape Fear, it scarred me for life. Also, Creepshow 2. For years afterward he would whisper “Thanks for the ride lady” to me before puting me to bed! To Bryan’s point, about transformation, the scene in Teen Wolf when MJF turns into the werewolf for the first time in the bathroom scared the bejesus out of me as a child. Great ep guys!

Apart from that, The Exorcist was my first and last ‘scarring’ experience in a theatre. I was urged (bullied) to attend by two male friends who claimed ‘it’ll be ok’…I disagreeD but succombed to pressure. I am still haunted by flashbacks! 🙂 That was the 70’s…

Holy shit. The wheelers also left me upset and concerned as a young child. “Parents” is also a creepy one, featuring a cannibalistic Randy Quaid. Very disturbing, though it was classified as a black comedy.

It was a double feature with this crazy movie where a guy drives a rocket car through a mountain and another dimension… I have no idea what that was but I remember it being pretty strange.
