I recently did a lot of research on this subject – acclaimed director debuts- and came up with 120 of them. http://cinelists.blogspot.com/2011/11/120-critically-acclaimed-director.html might be of interest

Ummm… yeah… The Help is based on an actual book. Just thought you should know.

Bryan made no sense while talking about this. The white perspective is there because the author of the book based it on her experiences growing up in the south.

I watched limitless as well, and agreed with one of the comments above how I don’t really remember much about the resolutions, but did appreciate the look of the film. Very entertaining at times, but a tad long-winded for me. I didn’t find myself caring about the characters very much, which only hurt my connection with the plot itself. It was almost the opposite of a documentary in that aspect…in a doc, you find yourself intrigued with the character, and in turn, their dilemma. Limitless presented the dilemma/plot foremost, and i felt like the depth of character was secondary. Sorry to go all Roger Ebert on your asses, but oh well. Love TFV!!

Sam Mendes (American Beauty, etc) made another movie about 2 years ago named Away We Go. Despite a questionable trailer/commercials, I finally saw it last week. Definitely worth checking out.

Love that movie. Written by Dave Eggers or A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius and McSweeney’s fame.

The glee in Anderson’s voice talking about the Postman was awesome. He sounded so different, like someone who something they couldn’t understand or comprehend. It was awesome.

The problem I have with Limitless is that there is no there, there… I watched it with my wife a month ago through Netflix and other than the concept and the shootout with the Russian guy and his thugs I can’t recall much of the movie, it left no lasting impression. I can’t even rememebr how the conflict with Deniro was resolved really. The concept was great but poorly executed, though I did enjoy the visual style of the film.

Please continue the sniff-a-toreuom. It’s so annoying and such an A.D. Style in-joke.

Now that Carolla has started doing it as bit, I agree it needs to be banned from TFV and the AD.
