Top 5 Opening Title Sequences

Bryan flickfesses the movie he was assigned to watch by Anderson after losing last week’s Oscar bet.  Then, the guys get into the TOP 5 OPENING TITLE SEQUENCES which proves movies can be awesome before they even begin.  Before bringing the show home, Anderson and Bryan make another bet for next week’s episode.

  4. Great podcast to get the masses talking; but as usual better choices could have been made for the Top 5. Here are some films that should have either made the list or at least gotten honorable mention for best opening intros:

    1. Scarface
    2. The Kingdom
    3. Dawn of the Dead (2004 version)

  5. Being from Australia I remember watching Eric Bana on comedy skit shows. If you want to see some, search YouTube for ‘Full Frontal Eric Bana’.

  8. The opening sequence for “The Girl with the Dragoon Tattoo” (U.S. version) was terrible. It didn’t fit the movie at all! Something like that would be better for an action/spy James Bond type movie.

  11. This episode was a hipstery, less guy-on-the-street movie watcher – with a little film school pretense – which is where you guys are usually, but still damn good and from the hip-sounding. What about best TV-themed movies or best politically-themed movies to coincide with election year?

  12. Interesting topic but kind of shallow – since so many of these entries end up being for mediocre movies.

  13. My unsolicited two cents: People don’t listen to the show for just a Top 5 list. We could google whatever the topic is and get any number of lists. We listen for Anderson, Bryan and Logan’s commentary and opinions. I generally come here after I listen to the episode to check the lists and update my netflix queue.

  14. There need to be more comments on here about what a hipster douche Anderson sounded like for praising Saul Bass so much. I mean it affectionately, since I normally like Anderson quite a bit and value his opinion over Bryan’s most of the time. But if we were hanging out, I’d give him shit about it.

  15. This top 5 was my brainchild and BB didn’t remember my tweet months ago. “How dare you!!”

Batman (1989) should have at least gotten an honorable mention. Changed the way opening production logos were done, where the Warner Brothers emblem was dark blue too match tone of film. Now a days that is the norm.

  16. Both lists fail without Segio Leone’s title sequence for “Once Upon A Time In The West”.

  18. Guys, put the top fives up a week after the episode is uploaded. I understand why you are hesitant, but if people are going to listen to the show it is to hear you. You do deliver solid film takes, but those are a dime a dozen, but it is annoying having to take notes during your episodes. Keep up the funny!

  20. Anderson really had his hipster asshole setting to 11 this week. He thinks of the podcast like he’s teaching a film class? Insulting Bryan because he’s never heard of Saul Bass? All the Fincher slurping?

  21. I’ve been avoiding Chronicle since Max Landis a) lifted most of the concept from the BBC show ‘Misfits’ and b) appears to be a total douche from watching the ‘Death & Return of Superman’ YouTube video. Now, I may have to track it down. Yes, I am a nerd.

  22. Anderson,
How do you Flickfess “Chronicle” and not mention that it stars Wallace from The Wire?

Where’s the boy, String? Where’s Wallace? Where the fuck is Wallace?!

  23. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuhgBvOWb_k I assume Anderson has seen the only flick Saul Bass directed….Phase IV. It’s a low budget 70’s sci fi flick that’s a cross between 2001, Andromeda Strain, and a killer ant movie.

  24. I would love for one of you (Bryan) to watch a movie Dameshek turned me on to – Once. It’s kind of a musical, but with incredible music and I’m pretty sure the story was great too. The best review I saw went something like this…”When I left the theater, all I wanted to do was hug everybody I saw”. I kind of felt like that too after I watched it.
Great show, keep on keeping on.
