Top 5 Movies NOT To Watch While High

In honor of the episode being release on 4/20, this week Anderson and Bryan talk about the TOP 5 MOVIES NOT TO WATCH WHILE HIGH.  For whatever reason, these 10 films are hard to sit through sober, let alone in a state of elevation.

  1. Wow! 2 weeks in a row, I liked RocknRolla AND Cabin in the Woods!! Bryan for RocknRolla, seriously, you sometimes need to take movies in the spirit in which they’re intended. C’MON!
I recently saw Apocalypse Now, and I must say… guess ya had to be there???

But Anderson! I have to disagree about Inception. Only the smartest people I know enjoyed it, the people I know who didn’t enjoy it, well, not so smart. But your ‘shrooms comments made me laugh.

#1 movie to watch while high – Cloud 9 by the 10th Street Bros. Not really a movie, but “visually stunning” is an understatement! Great music too!! EXCEPT there’s a part where you think the movie is ending, and there’s a creepy guy singing into the camera at you, and that is quite DISTURBING. I always have to fast forward thru that part.

Agreed about Mulholland Drive also. Seriously bad movie, very confusing.

  2. Had ‘Enter The Void’ in my Instant Queue but watched it based off this episode. I don’t know if I loved it or hated it. I wasn’t even high but it made me feel very paranoid and anxious… which is what I’m sure they were trying for, Anyway, I recently started listening to this podcast and this was the first I heard, and now you’ve got a new subscriber. Thanks guys.

  3. I actually like Bryan’s testiness and his insistence that films like the 3 Stooges are view worthy.

  4. another episode that screams, replace Bryan with Logan. The people rebutting this, say that Logan wouldn’t be able to contribute the way Bryan does. Well as Bryan has a very limited amount of knowledge to share (hi…trivia is not knowledge) and interrupts Anderson at inopportune times to contribute nothing, maybe the show shouldn’t have hosts sharing the heavy lifting 50/50. I have no problem with Bryan selecting featured artists or contributing sound effects, or keeping the deadly dull Miss Movies from appearing…..but we get it already. You like Muppets, Transformer, and think James Bond is classic cinema. If I baked cookies, I’d give you one. The Film Vault drinking game should be: take a drink everytime Bryan says ‘I don’t know what that is’ after Anderson makes a statement about something everyone in the audience knows (ex. ‘Take Shelter’ from last year and a very recent podcast). I’ll still click through the site for my amazon addiction…but please consider revamping/improving the podcast.

    • I couldn’t disagree more, Matt. The show wouldn’t be the same without Bryan. And it’s his damn show anyway. Who are you to say he shouldn’t be featured on the show he created. I don’t get it. Sure, Bryan does occasionally not know things about more independent films that he should know, but the same thing could be said for Anderson when it comes to mainstream films. It doesn’t matter. It’s a podcast, not a textbook. It’s supposed to be fun and entertaining and Bryan and Anderson both consistently make me laugh and keep me coming back. Nothing against Logan, who I also like, but I don’t know if I’d continue to listen to the podcast if Bryan was gone and he started hosting.

      • I forgot it’s actually Bryan’s show, so I’ll concede that as the major point that will keep him on the Film Vault. Maybe I should hope that Anderson runs off with someone who is passionate about films not necessarily aimed at the lowest common denominator(if not Logan, someone else….not Ms Movies). I think it’s a problem when there’s a new gambling segment that screeches to a grinding halt early because Bryan can’t come up with a film for Anderson to see.

  5. I liked this episode. I like the longer episodes that TFV has now, and gambling is a great addition.

But the voicemails were awful. They reminded me of Reel Beat’s fake callers…probably because those were the same people calling.

If you’re going to do that Bryan, just use your veto power for a new topic. I don’t need to hear the fraternity consensus on the worst movies to watch while high.

  6. Seems like a lot of hate for this installment. Can it possibly be as bad as the episode where they gave each other Christmas gifts for 45 minutes?

    • Worse than the Christmas ep. Anderson did a great job but Bryan (with a Y) came across like a pouting passive agressive popus putz. He mailed it in. He’s getting more and more arrogant in every episode. Funny to think when this Podcast started I had a hard time dealing with AC. Now the roles are switched.

      • I have to agree, in the beginning Anderson was a bit much, now I just want Bryan to tone it down, funny how Anderson has become the voice of reason…

      • Having finally listened to the episode, I can safely say the Christmas episode still stands as the worst episode. The topic for this episode was flawed, but at least it wasn’t the content-free cacophony the Christmas episode was.

  7. Wow, what an car wreck with a baby on fire. Worst episode ever. I blame Bryan – very passive agressive. Loved Anderson’s list.

Does Bryan have final say on every list? What a tyrant.

  8. Way to mail it in Bryan, what a passive aggressive 8% move. This reminds me of the first time I saw The Muppet Movie, after which I was raped by the ticket taker. The difference is that hopefully I won’t remember this episode in vivid detail.

  10. I agree with Brian about Rock N Rolla, except that it is like the other Guy Ritchie movies except it has no story (the other shows at least were entertaining with a fun storyline). I would not recommend it to anyone, not even Guy Ritchie fans.

  15. Speaking of “Cabin in the Woods,” Joss Whedon and moving past the abortion that was this episode
    sniff
have you guys seen the reviews for “Avengers” so far? Bitch has a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes right now.
The critics are making it sound like it’s a profound movie, and it transcends the typical superhero stuff.
So Anderson was wrong yet again.

  16. Yeah Anderson for pimping The Cabin in the Woods. Saw it last weekend and it was so great. The most entertaining horror (though admittedly more focused on the meta-comedy than really scaring you) film I’ve seen in years.

  18. I gotta agree about Apocalypse Now. The last I saw it, I was in that state and afterwards I was so depressed I vowed never to see it again. I would also advise against Pi. I started to watch it and freaked out immediately and turned it off probably by the 2 minute mark.

    • Just to make sure I have this straight, Bryan veto’d the original idea which sounded interesting. So they went to this topic to placate Bryan…and then he still ruined it.

  21. I am much more critical when in altered states watching movies. Don’t know why everybody says being stoned makes a mediocre movie better, it makes them far worse.

Watch “Black Dynamite” high, you won’t regret it.

  25. The hipster debate reaches a new low. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is a hipster movie because of the title? Absurd! Just because Logan & Anderson like it does NOT make it a hipster film. It’s a good test, just not 100% accurate.

“If Eraserhead was a Transformer” is maybe the funniest thing I have heard in a while.
