Top 5 Gambling Scenes – Vol 1: Non-Traditional Gambling

Hit up the ATM for Volume 1 of the TOP 5 GAMBLING SCENES: NON-TRADITIONAL GAMBLING.  Anderson and Bryan talk about their top 5 favorite gambling scenes, but not the kind of gambling you would normally associate with placing bets.  Before that, something that doesn’t happen often during Flickfessions, Anderson and Bryan discuss the same film that they saw in the past week.

  1. Just finally got around to listening to this show. The part where Bryan pulls victory from defeat on the bet (around the 1 hour 12 minute mark) almost made me choke on my drink. A big laugh at the expense of Anderson (sorry Anderson).

  3. Anderson: “kind of ghetto, kind of gay” Update your lingo! This stuff sounds fairly wrong these days.

  4. Slightly dissapointed not to see the movie Intacto mentioned for some of the the most bizarre non-gambling moments in film history. (OK its a Spanish film…but it has Max Von Sydow at his best) I wont mention them for fear of spoiling this great movie that I hope all will eventually see. One scene involves an insect that helps determine the winner, another speeding cars and my personal favorite: motionless trees in the forest. A truly unique film that takes gambling luck to another level entirely.

  6. Kind of disappointed Caddyshack didn’t get an honorable mention.

“Fifty bucks the Smails kid picks his nose.”

“Fifty bucks more says he eats it.”

  8. Just watched The Divide and it is certainly not a good movie. Can’t see Bryan sitting through this one, but seems like it’s up Anderson’s alley.

  11. Whoa! It happened again! Anderson talked about The Divide, which I just happened to have had at my house from Netflix for the past 4 days. I loaded it a while ago to see more Lauren German movies, and they happened to be talking about it on the show.

Anderson to Bryan: “You’ll watch ‘Shame’ eventually.”
It’s directed by a black man, Anderson. Are you sure?
    Are you sure?

Also, Anderson is 100% correct about the old man in “No Country for Old Men.” They’re just fairly naive old Southern gentlemen who walk into brutal deaths because they aren’t accustomed to the ways of psychos- it’s the basis of the whole movie. Tommy Lee Jones basically spells out everything with the other old man in the restaurant scene.
Bryan said that it’s a matter of debate. Actually, it’s almost inarguable.
I lived in the South during the ’80s, and I saw those dinosaurs before they went extinct. I got somewhat misty-eyed when I saw them again on the big screen. There aren’t any Southern gentlemen anymore.
This “naive” and “gentlemen” description isn’t to say that they were all innocent or anything– many of them were the last members of an ultra-oppressive generation.

……Now are YOU getting misty-eyed, Bryan?

  14. The Dirty Harry line isn’t, “Do ya feel lucky, punk?” It’s, “You gotta ask yourself one question, ‘do I feel lucky?’ Well do ya, punk?” If Logan’s gonna chisel it in stone, he should probably get it right.

  15. First, awesome episode overall! The hockey stuff was really funny and for the first time in a an episode or two, Anderson and Bryan were back in form. Logan’s chick banter was really funny, too. The lists and flickfessions were quality. Nice to see the energy back. However, I have to totally disagree about Tin Cup. I know it is a formulaic, very mainstream movie that likely shares fans with 2 and a half men, but it is very easy to watch and entertaining. It is one of those movies that that great to put on if you’re doing some other stuff and want some background entertainment. It is every bit as good as The Hammer (which I enjoy in the same way) that I’ve heard Bryan praise before. Also, how did Bryan pick an unconventional gambling scene from Tin Cup and not pick the 7-iron bet? It was an awesome scene, way better than the long drive bet scene and from the same movie! Keep up the great work
