As most people know, the selection SUCKS; therefore, I appreciate the fact that the guys are pointing out the gems. In fact, I would love to hear an episode like this more often.

Also I feel like half the movies had been brought up fairly recently. If a movie was already mentioned anyone interested in it likely already checked if it was streaming so no need to mention it again.
Also I agree with the other poster – more Logan. Bryan and Anderson know each others positions too well so adding a 3rd voice with a different perspective livens things up.

Do Anderson & Bryan not realize that Netflix & Amazon Prime aren’t available in the same fashion anywhere other than the US? Both are available elsewhere but are emaciated versions of their american counterparts featuring a fraction of the movies that stream in the US. Even if they were available in exactly same form there are still many people who don’t subscribe to these services. Inherently you are excluding a portion of your audience (again especially true of non american listeners) from any relevence to the structure of the list.
Before listening to the show I thought that I would just take it as a list of movies but like Tom said before me the vast majority of both lists were recently included on other lists. Just in general I found this to be a useless episode. Funny as always but from a movie point of view I didn’t get anything at all from it. If you like me don’t use a movie streaming service this is by far the most skippable episode ever. Frankly even if you do then it is still pretty skippable if you’ve listened to the show’s more recent episode. On a side note I thought it was hypocritcal of Anderson to get on Bryan’s case for Alien being on his list when it was discussed recently when the same thing could be said about many of his choices.

Posted by Matthew | July 24, 2012, 4:51 AMif you dont use netflix or amazon, then ignore the list or episode. theyre common and popular services and im sure a big chunk of their audience uses them (i dont recall but it maybe was one of the questions in the survey) so why shouldnt they use them for a list? especially if you consider many other obscure lists theyve done before.
do you really listen to the show JUST to get info on what movies to watch? I cant count how many lists there have been whose theme i dont give a fuck about, but i still enjoy listening to the show.

Just felt a bit like they were mailing it in because they had to do it ahead of time.

How will a gardener not charge you extra for the extra 15 minutes it takes him to rake the lawn? If there was limitless supply, then the cost of gardening RIGHT NOW would be constantly decreasing until it reached an equilibrium, which I’m assuming it has at this point. If the cost of your gardener RIGHT NOW WITH LEAFBLOWERS isn’t dropping every year then the market has reached an equilibrium. If every gardener has to work an extra 30 minutes on every house (spoiler alert, your house isn’t the only one they work on) then they have to drop a client or two. Are they just going to eat the loss, or will they charge each remaining client a little bit more to recoup their losses? If an equilibrium has been reached pre-leafblower, it is ridiculous to say that adding a 20% workload to the product is going to result in the price staying the same. If there were this crazy overpopulation of gardeners than your prices should be dropping every year right now. You bring great shame on USC. Your constant use of the words supply and demand without understanding them is just sad. Adam didn’t even graduate high school and he understands this.

Posted by Ian Herran | July 23, 2012, 6:33 AMYou assume demand is very inelastic. Maybe gardening demand is very elastic in LA and the current pricing is right at an inflection point of the demand curve.
Let’s say for argument’s sake, you raise the price 5% per client to account for 20 minutes of extra illegal alien labor but as a result 25% of the clients drop and just do their own gardening. If that’s the case, it makes more sense to cut profits by 5% (absorb the extra cost of the extra labor from profits) and not pass along to the consumer. This is not Bryan’s argument, he is stating that since gardening is just this side of slave labor, you pretty much can just pay Jose the same amount regardless of the amount of work. While that is also true, it ignores the demand side of the transaction.

I will tell you what I told Bryan when he ruined the ending to Chinatown, please have enough respect for your listeners by exercising a little restraint, and don’t ruin movie endings. You always mention how you consider this show a service to your listeners by recommending movies for them, but it is a great disservice when you ruin endings. So please refrain in the future, despite how you feel about them or how old they are. Discovering the reveal in a movie is one of the best parts to enjoying them.
Conversely, thank you Bryan for not spoiling The Sting. That is one of my all time favorite movies, and I have recommended it to many people. Great reviews today for both of you.

They’ve both seemed to get in the habit of spoiling a movie and then exclaiming “Spoiler Alert!” AFTER its already been spoiled (which obviously does nothing but twist the knife to those who haven’t seen it yet). I love this show but I can’t keep listening if I’m afraid any movie could be spoiled at any time.
Instead of just complaining though, may I offer a suggestion? After each episode record a quick 20 second disclaimer and mention the films that you reveal major and minor spoilers for. Have Logan slap it on the the front of the episode and then people can decide whether to listen or not. If you really want to go the extra mile then let us know the timestamp of the spoilers so we can just skip that part if we want.

I love Toynbee, definitely agree on the creepy vibe throughout. The animations in place of primary source footage are plenty effective for me. Also the lack of a traditional resolution, making it partly a story about a man letting go of his own obsession, I thought worked very well too.
Dear Zachary, I have some issues with. While the story itself is undoubtedly powerful and shocking, and the movie waits a sufficient length of time for the big reveal, I don’t think it’s particularly well-made. When they do the big reveal the screen goes to a photo negative image and jarring music plays, it’s amateurish. That’s just one example, but that movie at times felt very heavy-handed.
