Fall Preview 2012

It’s the annual FALL PREVIEW episode.  Anderson and Bryan are going through their most anticipated movies of the season.  Before that, Bryan reveals what he watched after losing in last week’s gambling segment.  Plus, the guys pay tribute to the late Tony Scott by briefly running down their favorite films by the great director.

  1. I would personally say yes, Inglourious Basterds is better than Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, which I have not been able to sit thru all the way; I’m not saying it’s not a good movie, I’m just not into that much IN YOUR FACE torture, and I love Michael Madsen.
But to me Pulp Fiction was at the time, kind of a new style of movie to high school sophomore me, and that’s part of why it’s a good movie.

  2. If you guys (Anderson) are going to bitch and moan about not being able to see the movies assigned to you after losing the bet, then don’t do the betting thing any more. Or maybe do it every other week to give Anderson some time to see it. Getting tired of “can’t do it this week” or trying to change what movie they have to watch.

  3. Is there any chance we can get some links to the trailers for these movies? I know the “no spoilers” rule of not posting the lists, but maybe Logan could just throw up a few trailers? After all, this is a unique-type of podcast.

  4. Good episode.

I’m a bit surprised neither of you had Seven Psychopaths on your list. It’s the next film from In Brouges director Martin McDonagh. That movie is such an under-the-radar gem with a fun (but dark) story and great performances from all the leads that I expect nothing less from his next. Colin Ferrell reteamed with the director who got his best performance out of him, supported by Sam Rockwell, Christoper Walken, and Woody Harrelson as the heavy? It’s easily sitting at #1 most anticipated for me this fall.

  5. Did ya know this was your 50th post-ACE episode? Congrats on that. Let’s get another drunk celebratory episode, perhaps at Anderson’s bachelor party. YEAH FILM VAULT.

  6. I love hearing the Amazon list but how many movies do you guys actually have each week to sort thru? Just curious because I bought 2 via the click thru and I didn’t hear either. One was Drive and the other one was The Last Boy Scout. I figured at least Drive would be mentioned. I did it once before and got 4 movies…all were mentioned, even The Princess Bride (sorry Anderson!).

I’d like to hear some other titles other than the ones that get a lot of mentions. Maybe a BOTTOM 5 list of movies bought via Amazon….it would be a way to get mentioned along with the Astronaut Ice Cream. Just an idea.

    Keep up the great work!

    • OK, I heard my movies this week! (Drive and The Last Boy Scout). I also bought 2 more items this week hoping to hear them on the Top 5 Guilty Pleasures episode but alas, they were not. I guess it’s a week behind. No matter what, I am happy for the show, happy I can buy these things thru Amazon, and happy to support you three. Oh, and MORE MISS MOVIES!

  9. Does Anderson remember making the comment about Tony Scott on the John Cho episode?

  10. I also loved Pirates of Silicon Valley. I mostly remember it as the movie that singlehandedly killed my nostalgia for the 80’s because apparently all adults were self-centered, greedy pricks back then (according to the movie).

  11. What on Earth made Anderson think Jiro is pronounced like gyro? It’s pronounced “Jee-ro,” just like it looks. And Django isn’t Japanese, and is just pronounced like there isn’t a D in it, like Jango Fett.

  13. Great episode this week. The preview episodes are definitely some of my favorites. Looking forward to hearing your Top 5 looking back on this summer. I would have to put Beasts of the Southern Wild #1.

Overall, this year is shaping up to be a fantastic one for movies (and TV for that matter with great seasons of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Louie, etc.

  14. Anderson on Amazon textbook purchases: “I love hearing these titles and remembering when I was in college and thinking things would be different.”

    I miss hope, too.

Me at 20: “All of these great college grades will carry me through life. Someone in the world will recognize my accomplishments at this great university (U Mich) and reward me when I graduate.”

Hahahahahahahaaaaaa. I was SUCH a moron.

  15. Anderson: “Logan, if you want to bet me $50–”

    Bryan: “Hahaha. $50?! Logan doesn’t have $50.”

    Pure gold.

  16. Just to let you know, the mp3 I’ve grabbed twice has about 25 minutes of dead air after the 1st minute or so…then it continues right where it left out.
