  2. re: Vaulties, thank goodness I’d seen Searching for Sugarman before listening. Not so lucky for Looper. I really like your show but would you please fuck off with the spoilers. Can’t you edit around your occasional slips? You lovable assholes.

  3. Anderson’s OTHER egregious error this week:

Saying “Irreversible” has newborn porn. A Serbian slap for you.

Also, Anderson…I love you, I do (unlike so many of the PC, humourless, folks on this message board it seems) but stop telling Bryan to hurry up and finish his flickfessions!
    Very rude. VERY rude!
And made worse when you actually finish off his views for him.
    Tut and INDEED…tut.

    • I agree with you. About pretty much everything. Only point I don’t is I don’t think Anderson intended to insinuate that new born porn was in Irreversible. Just pointing out the horrible things he could do to Bryan. Easy for people to mistake what he meant because I thought about that. Enough with both of the interupting eachother. I love Anderson and his incorrect manner and approach.

    • He wasn’t saying that Irreversible has baby porn. He was simply switching gears and talking about A Serbian Film without saying the title.

  5. Bry Bry, please please retire ALL the films you’ve listed in your past Top Fives. Yes, ALL of them! Weeeell, there’s only like 20 movies you’ve reshuffled over and over through the years so I’m really not asking much.

    I still love you.

  6. Anderson – The 25th Hour was anxious not aggressive. The guy, Norton, was going to prison and was justly anxious, which explained his demeanor and the demeanor of the movie. Norton was supposed to be unlikable – he was a pompous drug dealer, and yet when he was sentenced you were still sympathetic – and of his fireman father who hadn’t been in his life enough and expressed the same. Great movie – and as you’ve said before about a great movie – unforgettable.

  9. Anderson-Saw ‘Place beyond the Pines’ last night. I thought it was mediocre. I like the first act with Gosling, he was pretty bad ass, but generally stories where ‘something happens to two people, and their lives continue to intersect for years’ genre movies kind of bore me. Like Crash or The Burning Plain. I get it, their children meet separately and have an interaction. meh.
Though I thought of you during the scene in the kitchen where Bradley Cooper’s wife was just dripping with sarcasm and contempt. You could tell instantly their marriage would end in divorce. A good scene.
Also-Bryan-in Freakonomics, the authors Levitt and Dubner said that in the movie, Morgan Spurlock came to the exact WRONG conclusion (regarding the impact of your name than what they wrote about in their book. He took a best selling book, and while making the movie, told the opposite thing to the viewers. Thats worse than any of Anderson’s egregious errors. A bad director indeed.

  11. Hate to be a douche and point out every little mistake, but because we’re doing Anderson’s errors, I should point out that Place Beyond the Pines spans 16 years, not 15.

  13. Gummo is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Only a sick person like Anderson could like it. And I don’t believe he really likes it, he is just trying to be shocking.

Better than Super Size Me (and less blowhards) is a movie called Fathead. And better than any Michael Moore movie is Michael Moore Hates America. It exposes his bs nonsense.

I have been waiting for The Place Beyond The Pines for months and was heartbroken that they went with limited release. Now I am dying to see it even more.

    • I love the movie Gummo. It has a raw perspective of how some of humanity really is. Usually movies cut away and leave it up to your imagination. That movie, and Larry Clark movies don’t. And that is what I love about them. I don’t watch movies just for shock. It has to have substance.

  17. Bryan I’m thrilled you finally saw That Thing You Do. So sad you didn’t it. You truly would have liked the theatrical cut better. I loved the Extended cut but I’m a huge fan. Bought the soundtrack. If you want a faster paced and better experience for yourself check out the theatrical cut.

    • The missing verb in that second sentence is perfect.

I, too, am so sad Bryan didn’t [anything] it. See it. Like it. Review it.

Jesus Christ, Bryan … rookie mistake for a veteran host of a podcast that is dedicated to the discussion of … movies.

    • I’ve seen neither but know by instinct that they both have to be bad. Bryans taste range to strange degrees. Hovering mostly middle ground but then extremely shitty to even excellent. Not a criticism just an observation.

  28. Matt & Trey were annoyed with Michael Moore for making it seem like they (Matt & Trey) made that cartoon. One reason they killed him off in ‘Team America’.

    P.S. I still don’t like Logan.

  29. I feel the need to explain something about Nebraskans that was missed by Anderson to no fault of his.

If you have ever been to Nebraska, then you know the state has very little to offer. Because of this most people develop an oddity in their sense of humor. We like to take false pride in the state. We’re often very tongue-in-cheek about it as well. So when I heard that quip by Anderson, I sent a silly tweet to him about throwing the gauntlet or something similar to that. Righteous indignation is probably the best way to explain the nature of most of our jokes when Nebraska is slighted.

Now here is something Nebraskans don’t understand – outside of the state, people don’t get this quirk in our sense of humor. After growing up in The Good Life (that’s right, out of every state in the Union, Nebraska is The Good Life), I moved to San Francisco for work. One of my friends asked me what my favorite movies were and I answered Election, Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice, Boys Don’t Cry, etc… of course with the common link being Nebraska. They didn’t get it. After that I realized that people who grew up in desirable places to live, don’t understand our sarcastic false sense of pride. So in my estimation Anderson was likely attacked by 90% of people sarcastically, and probably 10% were actually mad.

And as official Nebraska Ambassador to The Film Vault, you are still in our good graces, Anderson. But watch it next time. I mean how could you even suggest that Bill is from Nebraska. We have the world’s largest porch swing AND Jim Carey shot part of a movie here once (or maybe it was green screened, fuck if I know). For Christ’s sake, does California have the most miles of river of any state in the country? DIDN’T THINK SO. Show some respect.

    • Well stated. I’m not from Minnesota but live here. Bill probably lives here because Minnesotans are passive agressive assholes. All be it that review was agressive. Still it wouldn’t suprise me.

  30. Anderson’s egregious error this week:

Trey and Matt had nothing to do with that distorted and histrionic cartoon in ‘Bowling for Columbine’.

  31. Bryan,

John McClain (the judge in Spring Breakers) covers the NFL for the Houston Chronicle. So, if you feel like you’ve seen him before, it’s probably because he pops up on the NFL Network from time to time.

I hope that this information soothes your troubled mind.
