Continuing the discussion of films on the shorter side, Anderson and Bryan run down the scant TOP 5 DOCUMENTARIES UNDER 90 MINUTES.  They also recap the best show opening you’ll never hear, Anderson reviews Iron Man 3 before opening weekend, and the guys enjoy a song from a classic film.

  1. I like the featured artists, but I really wish each episode ended with Heartlight.

  2. When i was recommending “resurrect dead” to all my friends i described it thusly: if you remember the old show “unsolved mysteries” think of it as the greatest episode of unsolved mysteries of all time.

    if u liked that show you will love it

  3. I will also admit Bryan the Blues Hammer scene was cracking me up too….now all I have stuck in my head is “I’ve been plooowwwing, pickin cotton all day long.” Seeing the clip made it so much better too.

  4. umm yes, you’re welcome for the top 5 shootout scenes 🙂

    new topic suggestions:

    top 5 leading ladies
    top 5 rescue scenes
    top 5 super hero movies
    top 5 screaming dialogues (I guess this could be good for “clips”)
    top 5 most satisfying endings

  5. I saw Ghost World after hearing about in this episode, I liked it very much. It’s… beautifully tragic, and I related to several of the characters. I think introverted people can relate to an appreciate much about this movie and extroverts will tend to write it off, so I’m not at all surprised at Bryan’s disposable attitude towards it.

    ~~~Not really spoilers, but spoiler tag anyway~~~
    I say not really spoilers because the end is a bit ambiguous and open to interpretation, but to me the most clear interpretation of the ending is that she commits suicide. Apparently most people disagree with this interpretation, including the film makers according to an IMDB board post, but to me it’s by far the most obvious and likely ending, for a myriad of reasons.
  6. “Please Vote for Me” is now streaming on Netflix. At a scant 57 minutes, it should have been mentioned as an also-ran.
  7. Not that you neccesarily did it in this episode, but often Bryan and/or Anderson will deem an episode “best” or “worst” IMO some of the best episodes are when Anderson is so annoyed with either the topic or Bryan’s child-like campiness that one will immediately declare the episode best or worst. Let the listeners decide bros. Perhaps people are tuning in not for your movie expertise but perhaps the oil and watery mix of personalities. Either way, I’m tuning in everyweek and keep up the good work gents.
  8. Just saw Killer Joe on your recommendation. Intense movie. Do yocals in Texas all really open their front doors without pants because “they didn’t know who it was?” All the more reason to wear pants! Crazy film
  9. I know it’s been said on previous episodes’ comments section, but please Anderson, stop trying to push things along and “get this show over with.” THIS IS NOT RADIO! I want to her you guys wax on about films, I want the podcast to breathe. I get that this episode’s length went hand in hand with the topic, kind of a dumb novelty, but i digress. The sad irony is that the person who keeps wanting to fast-talk and speed through the episode with very few details is the one person I actually want to hear things from. Insight, theories, likes, dislikes, recommendations, etc. Please don’t be afraid to expand. I think a majority of TFV fans wouldn’t mind listening to a 2 hour+ podcast every now and then. Small, although admittedly lengthy criticism. Either way, I still love the show. Keep it up.
    • I agree. Unlike radio a lot of us listen to these podcasts in the car where we can pick back up right were we left off, or like me, at work where I appreciate an even longer podcast. In fairness to the hosts I imagine that maybe you don’t want to spend two hours of your lives there yacking, but in general I don’t think there is some sort of great need to pick up the pace.
  10. I have turned the corner on Anderson, as well. The bald one continues to bring it, on both his podcasts, in very different ways. Huge fan! Keep it up, fellas. Then again, I am drunk, so…
  11. Doesn’t the “Anderson” in this fan art look like John Travolta?
  12. While you’re waiting for Transformers to get on Netflix, you guys should snifftrax an actual good movie like Drive. Or you could just do dark of the moon, I’m pretty sure that’s still on Netflix and would give me a reason to actually watch it.
  13. Anderson,you’re joking about MUD right? How could you like that piece of shit? Sure, the first 20-30 minutes is great. But it took FOREVER for things to get going. And once it does, it’s full blown melodrama. Can’t believe the heavy-handedness with the theme of love didn’t bother you either. And the villains? Just terrible, archetypal at best. The character of MUD was really solid I will admit.
  14. Great cover art, guys.
  15. Anderson has never been worse, getting more hipstery by the day.
  16. I love the show but I have to say, no one gives a shit if someone bought condoms on amazon
  17. Yes, we are still listening, Anderson…
    And you two definitely need to SniffTrax “Transformers 2” and/or “Delicatessan”. The first because it would be great to hear Anderson going insane with rage while Brian blisses out and the second so we can hear Brian continuously ask “What is happening?” since he won’t read subtitles while Anderson blisses out.
    And on a persoanl note I have turned a huge corner on Anderson. I listened to the very first episode of The Film Vault back on the old Ace network many moons ago and posted on the board that Baldy should drop you and that he could do better (which to my delight at the time was read during the very next episode by a jubilant Bald Brian), but now Anderson is the best part of the show. Its like he is helping a mentally challenged film viewer find his way through the poisonous quagmire of the Bay and Spielberg films to the fertile valley of Herzog and Kubrick. And while Brian fights you every inch of the way, you are making progress believe it or not. Keep working on him, Anderson.
  18. How the FUCK is ‘Mud’ only 4 out of 5 stars, Anderson??? I think you left off a few stars, more like 6 out of 5 stars. ‘Mud’ is absolutely the best film the year, so far.
