  2. Anderson’s egregious error of the week!

Anderson, the team in Alive is a RUGBY team, not a soccer team.

  3. I’m sure you’re going to read this and give this comment some sort of “fuck you” attitude. That’s fine… but you’re not pronouncing Tsotsi correctly. It’s not like “tootsie” its “so-see,” but you pinch your “s”s like when someone goes “tsk tsk tsk.”

Also, why the hell was there no Stand by Me?

That being said, amazing call with Mean Creek. Easily one of the most underrated films of… forever.

  5. Ang Lee did not direct Cold Mountain. That was Anthony Minghella. He DID direct Ride with the Devil, which is the movie Anderson was talking about. Also, did no one correct the egregious error a few weeks ago in which they referred to Tony Todd as Todd Tony?

  6. This episode was “back to the roots” of you two? I disagree. I never thought the show’s roots were “Anderson’s being extremely proud of himself” and “Bryan’s putting in zero effort.”

  7. Just went though the list of Anderson titles and ‘Upstream Color’ (2013) from the Sundance 2013 Preview episode is now streaming on Netflix Instant. It was #3A on his list. For this episode he had A/B choices for narratives/documentaries:

    — IMDb Playlist: http://www.imdb.com/list/xuupjtme31U/
    — ‘Upstream Color’ on NF Instant: https://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Upstream_Color/70265224?trkid=2361637

  10. This is totally off subject, but I never heard a review if the JoGo vehicle Premium Rush. I just watched that and Hesher in the same day, and I gotta say Hesher was brilliant, but Premium Rush left a lot to be desired. I am only curious what you guys think because rotten tomatoes has it at 76%, but in my opinion it feels a lot lower than that. It’s sad to say it because I love Michael Shannon and am growing very fond of JoGo, but for some reason that movie fell flat for me. Hope you guys actually read this. Love the show fellas.

  11. I think if I were going to meet Anderson beforehand I would dye/bleach my hair blonde then go into a “brodudebro” hipster/West Coast character just to annoy the fuck out of him.
I would quote “Dude, Where’s My Car?” and GI Joe movies.
Then when he thought I was just a vacuous “tragically hip” moron I would say things like, “BRO, and that one scene– that scene in Clockwork Orange, bro in the theater… Brill, bro…” or “Buffalo 66– when they’re in that photo booth thing… SO CHILL, brah.”
I would just make him question everything about himself. I could probably do it if I could restrain my laughter.
He is a bit too judgmental of people and anally introspective.

  12. I’m really disappointed that “The Outsiders” didn’t come up on your lists. It should have at lease got an “honorable mention”.

  15. Anderson… can you stop with “Bry Bry”? Love the show and everything about it, except that.

Also… Nick Cave’s score on The Assination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. Haunting, beautiful, and amazing.

  16. The latest episode has been added to the IMDb playlist showing which films are streaming based on Anderson’s Top 5s. I’ve changed the format slightly and removed the flickfessions keeping the list a pure top 5.

Two new films are currently streaming. The total # of NF Instant films is 49 out of 258 from a total of 47 episodes:

    — Shoeshine (1946)
    — Twelve and Holding (2005)

For each of the titles you can click through to Netflix Streaming to view the film’s details.

  17. A few corrections for “Road to Perdition”. The older boy is the only one to witness the killing, the younder son who had nothing to do with it is killed with the mom, which makes it more tragic. I’m pretty sure that it wasn’t Newman who had the the family killed, it was Newman’s idiot son, Newman just wouldn’t give him up to Hanks.

    • Welcome to Obama’s America.

I can’t believe that Anderson can be so dismissive of a brilliant movie with a cast which includes a pre Bond Craig, ‘the Tooch’, Paul Newman and an excellently creepy Jude Law.

Btw Road to Perdition is on youtube (in HD) in its entire glory.

  18. The pronunciation of “often” is a pretty polarizing piece of American dialect. What makes this extra funny is that one of the predominant identifying factor of the North Midlands dialect in the US is the pronunciation of Ts. North Midlanders don’t pronunciate it very often or they exchange it for a D if it lands in the middle or end of the word. Don’t=Doen’, Often=Offen, Wouldn’t=Wouldn’, Theater=TheaDer, Certain=Cer’en, etc…

If you guys remember a few weeks/months back, Anderson was accosted by some Nebraskans due to his disparaging remarks regarding that fine state. Well here’s a map of US dialects and you’ll see that Nebraska lands squarely amongst the North Midlanders.

I’m going to pretend that the listener who shat on Anderson regarding “often” was just a pissed off Nebraskan.

Oh, and to bring this back to film, when foreigners learn a “general American” accent, they study a dialect closest to the North Midlands dialect. It’s an English dialect with some of the least inflexion of any in the world. That makes it easier to learn and also easier to understand.

  20. The score for The Road was by Nick Cave AND Warren Ellis, who is from the band Dirty Three.

They’ve scored all the recent John Hillcoat films (The Road, The Proposition, Lawless) and also The Assassination of Jesse James.
