Posted by Ben Cacace (@NYCbirder) | August 3, 2013, 9:26 AMI loved that Brian flickfessed Killing Them Softly. I can’t express how much I love this movie, I really think it deserved a few Oscar nods. I also loved that the guys started talking about great things you overheard at the movie theater, because mine was at this movie. I understand Anderson not liking this film because he expected something different. It was advertised as “Brad Pitt being a bad ass and shooting people”, which certainly did happen but is not meant for people that are expecting that type of film. I knew what I was in for based on some reviews and on what Assassination of Jesse James was like. A couple that looks about twenty comes in and I knew immediately they wouldn’t enjoy this film when they just loved all the cringe worthy bullshit looking previews of bad movies. At the halfway point about where we meet James Gandolfini I hear the girl loudly complained to her guy, “There’s a lot of talking in this movie!” I just about lost my shit. I think they left a little bit after that.

I finally tackled the Pete Holmes portion from the ‘Philosophical Films’ (30-Nov-2012) and it was very confusing. His #2 was included with his #3 and #3 and #2 combined for a total of 5 titles. One is a TV series which doesn’t count and then he comes up with a second #2 in the proper position.
Pete’s only choice that is currently streaming is ‘Happy’ (2011) and couldn’t be more appropriate selection for Pete.
