  1. I really think you guys were onto something with your post-show elysium talk. Maybe have the after-show talk be an option regularly if there’s something you want to talk about that is fairly pressing without having to spoil it for the guy on the bike…?

  4. I don’t have FuckBook so I guess I’ll post here.

After watching Only God Forgives I just thought of two tfv Top Five List it would be eligible. The first would be Top Five Unintentionally Funny Movies which I’m sure this would make the list. The second would be Top Five Evil Cunty Mothers for which KST would certainly find herself on the shortlist.

  7. I almost got mad when Bryan chose the cartoon from Jurassic Park, but after he explained it I agreed with him. It was a clever way of introducing ridiculous information about cloning.

I tried using your promo code on draft kings, got absolutely nothing. So … yea.

  8. [** reposted at the top of the forum in case people don’t search for new ones at the bottom **]

@Miguel says: “It’s a problem with the format of the show. There are only so many categories you can do before you run out of ways to categorize movies. It’s amazing they’ve kept it up for as long as they have.”

You would think they’d run out of topics but I’ve sent in many recommendations that haven’t been used. The real problem is that Bryan is the one that dictates what the topic is. Many times we’ve heard that Anderson suggestions are shot down or modified badly. The worst was when they did ‘Top 5 Movies NOT to Watch While High’ which originally was a topic by Anderson called ‘Top 5 Movies to Watch While High’. And on this show Bryan literally phoned this one in. Another tendency for Bryan is to pick negative Top 5s which are the least interesting shows.

Here are just a few recommendations I sent in that haven’t been used yet. All related to full movies. Not scenes or things not to watch:

    — Top 5 Double Features
    — Top 5 Minimally Scored Films
    — Top 5 Best Films by a Writer/Director
    — Top 5 Mockumentaries
    — Top 5 Films That Take Place Between The World Wars
    — Top 5 Foreign/American Remakes (Which Is Best?)

Always looking out for the best shows possible.

  9. Elysium is not nearly as good as bryan and Anderson think it is. District 9 is a much better movie. I really think Matt Damon was a terrible choice for the lead here.

  12. There was an episode where each host retired 5 titles that the other could never use on another Top 5 list. This was the ‘Movies That Need To Be Retired From TFV’ episode from 7-Jun-2013. Here are the movies that Bryan chose for Anderson to keep off future lists. Now that I have all the details from the shows since 23-Apr-2010 I can show whether Bryan made the right choices based on the # of times Anderson used the title on previous Top 5s:

Bryan’s pick from ‘Movies That Need To Be Retired From TFV’:

    #5 Primer (2004): 2 times
    #4 Platoon (1986)
    #3 Election (1999): 3 times
#2 Gangs of New York (2002)
    #1 Irreversible (2002): only once

Here are the Top 10 most repeated movies (one is a documentary) on Anderson’s list. These include every title that is 4 or higher:

    — True Romance (1993): 7 times
    — Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles (2011): 4 times
    — The Dark Knight (2008): 4 times
** Gangs of New York (2002): 4 times
    — Training Day (2001): 4 times
    — Wild at Heart (1990): 4 times
    — Midnight Run (1988): 4 times
    — Vampire’s Kiss (1988): 4 times
    ** Platoon (1986): 4 times
    — Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982): 4 times

    He got two right.

      • @Ben Yeah, I guess that (as it turns out) Bryan Bishop is pretty much history’s greatest monster — simultaneously an incompetent rube who unwittingly undermines the show’s credibility and a malevolent, nefarious mastermind who wishes to destroy everything that is decent and pure about the Film Vault and replace it with a nightmarish, dystopian hellscape (and probably also — I’d imagine — undo and destabilize all of the Western civilization’s other most important achievements). You really are doing the Lord’s work in exposing this important and troubling reality to the rest of us.
