  1. Well you all should tune into the After Disaster. It’s fucking brilliant, and Anderson is more Anderson than ever.
    Essential podcasting pleasure.

  2. There are still only 10 titles that Anderson has mentioned four or more times on a Top 5 list. Only two of them have been retired from future Top 5s by the Bald One and those are ‘Platoon’ and ‘Gangs of New York’. The other 3 from Bryan’s list are Primer (2004): mentioned 2 times, Election (1999): mentioned 3 times and Irreversible (2002): mentioned only once:

    1. Vampire’s Kiss (1988): 4 times
    2* Platoon (1986): 4 times
3* Gangs of New York (2002): 4 times
    4. Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles (2011): 4 times
    5. Training Day (2001): 4 times
    6. Midnight Run (1988): 4 times
    7. True Romance (1993): 7 times
    8. The Dark Knight (2008): 4 times
    9. Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982): 4 times
    10. Wild at Heart (1990): 4 times

  4. Wonder Boys could have been on the list. Robert Downey Jr and Tobey. Great movie, great performances from top to bottom.

  6. Just finished listening to this. It was good but I’m a bit distressed that Macgruber was not even mentioned.

  7. Please don’t flickfess movies that you “fell asleep during”. That doesn’t count as watching a movie because you literally did not watch it. What’s next, flickfessing a movie that was on in the other room, or flickfessing a trailer? If you wanted to talk about a movie you should at least actually watch it.

  9. Cillian Murphy in Breakfast on Pluto is brutal to watch…really like the story and everyone else in it so far (I’m halfway into it)…

  10. A few things…

Valhalla is way more watchable than Only God Forgives. I’ve seen Valhalla 3 times now. It’s a good movie to have on in the background.

Anderson was kind of dismissive of Darby Crash, he could write lyrics, unlike GG. Shane West actually went on to tour with the Germs, never saw them though.

I’m looking forward to the Drive Snifftrax. I was concerned, at first, that it would bastardize it, but the factoid angle will be good.

I just figured out the fan art, it’s the woman who “stole” Anderson’s seat.

    This episode was totally gay.

    I’M FINISHED!

  11. What the hell was Anderson talking about when he referred to Willem Dafoe’s character from The Boondock Saints as being “evil?” That’s just outright false.

Also, there’s nothing quite as comedically satisfying as when someone’s attempt at sophisticated pretension goes horribly wrong, as happened when Anderson referred to the original French film that inspired The Birdcage as being called something like “La Cage Fullah” (rather than, you know, La Cage aux Folles). If Anderson is going to attempt to do these sorts of things, he probably ought to confine himself to occasions in which he hasn’t spent the whole day drinking.

  12. Anderson: “I’m a gay man and a gay journalist.” Ha ha! Did anyone else catch that reference?

  13. Today Logan and Anderson mentioned that they don’t like the change to the Instant Queue on Netflix which is now called ‘My List’. They mentioned that the list gets sorted with what Netflix thinks they want to watch.

I didn’t want this behavior because I need to track a movie’s ‘Available until’ date for the lists I maintain on IMDb.

Here’s the steps to get back to how it behaved when it was called Instant Queue:

    — Drop down on your profile name in the upper right corner of the screen
    — Select ‘Your Account’
    — Click on ‘Order in My List’
    — Click on ‘Manual Ordering’
    — Save

    Hope this helps.

  15. Unless this was one of the movies Anderson thought would be giving something away by saying the character is gay (which it really doesn’t), how was Sonny Wortzik from Dog Day Afternoon not on this list??? This should be right up there with Vaughn from Sling Blade.

Also, Bryan did the douchiest thing ever on the Carolla podcast… he made a Midnight Cowboy reference! A movie that he JUST SAW! The same day that he flickfessed the movie on this podcast, he seamlessly weaved it into conversation on another.

  16. Ditto on “But I’m A Cheerleader”. By the way, Sterling Hayden is NOT in Strangers on a Train. Do we need to start “Bryan’s egregious error of the week”?

  17. “The Celluloid Closet” – Great documentary on gay characters in film.

As the guy that often complains about your inappropriate use of the word “gay”, ya’ll did really well in this episode. I was super nervous, so kudos for that.

Make sure you see “But I’m a Cheerleader” before the lesbian episode. Soooo good.

  18. Another great show but I hate it when Bryan brings up the Nines, watched it on his recommendation and couldn’t stand it at all. Didn’t even want to one star it.
Sorry for the nines hate! Love the show but I just don’t understand Bryan’s love for that movie.

  19. Honestly I like when you guys banter back and forth during the show. Things aren’t so stuffy because you act like two regular guys talking movies for fun. So many show are hokie with dumb gimmicks. (Doug Loves Movies) Or they make everything too serious and try to find too much meaning political and otherwise instead of just enjoying them (Greatest Movie Ever) Which I love but gets super stuffy and more intellectual than it has any right to be. So just wanted to say you are the best movie podcast and likeable guys sincerely. Great show Anderson, Bryan, and Logan. Keep up the great work fellas.

    • I agree I like the banter. It helps better form a picture of the hosts and their relationship. Anderson is always trying hard to shut-it-down, but I love to hear their personal stories and such. And no, I’m not tuning into the After Disaster, give us some background and a persoanl flair along with our movie conversation – it makes for a good blend.
