  1. I know it’s not discussed on this weeks episode, but I needed to vent. I just watched ‘The Heat’ based on fairly glowing feedback from both hosts of this here program. Uh, WTF? It was marginal AT BEST. As Bryan would say – paint-by-numbers and formulaic. Law enforcement partners, one is by-the-book and the other is whacky/crazy. Wow, never seen that formula before…but WAIT they’re women this time! Every scene felt like a set-up for Melissa Mccarthy do to something zany. Predictable, lazy and fairly uninspired.

NOW – I know you’re saying, geez, it’s just a goof-ball comedy and I agree – it’s not Academy bound nor was it intended to be. My beef is that my trusted FV led me astray, especially after several positive mentions on this here program.

So disappointed. I now go into Dallas Buyers Club with high expectations, I hope you two redeem yourselves!

    • Yeah, it’s overrated.
But you need to remind yourself that this show also unanimously stated that “This is the End” was the best summer movie.
That thing is sinking like a vault (sniff) in the ocean on imdb– and rightfully so.

  2. without listening..this reads like it will be an uninspired boring not great episode..but that being said..I’m still going to listen..haha….mix that shit up though…find deeper inspiration….like my surely ignored suggestion on twitter of best urination scene or…other terrible suggestions I made would be neat 😀 ….

((((the urination thing..could get a “we’re not that show”..but one could also quite creative choices…….and then you could branch out to the entirely inappropriate best skat scene….uhm hmm))))

  3. Was really surprised that True Romance didn’t come up – Christopher Walken, James Gandolfini and Gary Oldman play three different villains you begrudgingly like. Perhaps “sympathy” is the key word, and in that case Salieri as mentioned above is a great one that shouldn’t have been omitted. Good episode overall with a few movies I wouldn’t have expected. And, as always, Bryan managed to cite a movie he insists is great (this time, “The Rock”) despite all evidence to the contrary. Good times, good times!

  4. You always assume your listeners are film junkies. I’ve been listening since you started on the ACE Network, and haven’t been to a movie theater in 9 years (the last time was for Napoleon Dynamite). Most of what I watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime are TV shows. Still, I like your show and have thrown you a few bucks through your Amazon link.

  5. Not that it’s a good movie, but would Sean Penn’s character in Mystic River count as a sympathetic villain?

  9. You mentioned Amadeus in the fick’en podcast yet you didn’t connect the dots to Salieri as a sympathetic villain, really my dear fellows….

  10. Bryan, wouldn’t Gen. Hummel, by virtue of The Rock’s ending, be necessarily *not* a villain? As he had no villainous intent or action, beyond a scary public relations campaign?

    • Well, he still functions as a villain in the story. Plus, that dead SEAL team might quibble with the whole “General Hummel is not a bad guy” idea.

    • This movie lost me when Marine Captain Frye said to Marine Gen. Hummel during the scene when the FBI called Hummel’s bluff, and he is unwilling to fire the VX at San Francisco: “Sir, let’s be all we can be.” Wrong branch of the military, David Weisberg. Have someone check this stuff before it goes to screen.

  11. Love you guys. Don’t change a thing. I love your show because it isn’t polished or perfect, I like you both, warts and all. This is a real compliment, not a complisault. I’ve got the Browning Version in my fuckflix cue. I can’t wait to see it. Thanks for entertaining me the past few years and suggesting some great films I would have never know about.

    • God looks kindly on a gentle master. I loved the 1951 “The Browning Version.” What a great performance by MIchael Redgrave, it reminded me of Anthony Hopkins in “Remains of the Day.” He had to play it so understated and reserved, yet overwhelmed with emotion. Thank you…thank you…for recommending it. To think I might have gone through my life without ever seeing this great performance. Again, I love you guys and I would think, God looks kindly on the both of you. Keep fighting the battle Bryan. I met you at “Laughs for Bald Bryan.” You were so positive and had such a great attitude. Thanks again for your film tips.

  12. Bryan, I just heard on the After Disaster that you told Anderson that Tyler caused you to turn off the show twice in recent weeks.
I gained even more respect for you. I already had a lot of it based on your attitude toward your brain cancer.
