  1. Man, it was a bummer to hear Anderson shitting on the music right off the bat. Just because it was twangy, it wasn’t some Deliverance-level stuff. It was more like Dead Flowers-style Rolling Stones. Anyway, that band kicks ass.

  2. First favorite moment of this podcast … upfront twanging country music is fading …

“Loges are you uhhhh, is this the song that’s gonna open the episode?”
    “Yes.”
Anderson clears his throat. “I see.”
    “You don’t like it?”
“Well, it occurred to me the other day we need some sort of production.”

I love the gentler, funnier Anderson. Go guys!

    Love the show.

  4. I go to Stanford and am most definitely paying $55,000+ for tuition this year. Your dreaming if you think any school wouldn’t charge tuition.

    • Yeah, I didn’t understand that at all.

      • I think the point is that at some of these schools, the endowments are becoming so large the need for tuition may eventually disappear. As I understand it at many of these schools, particularly Harvard, tuition, while extremely high, is often highly subsidized by the school, especially if you can’t afford it so that the cost is not as high as the price of tuition may make it seem.

Anderson made a pretty good point though that even if it got to that point, they wouldn’t stop charging the tuition.

  6. Hey, how about a “Top 5 Feel Good Films”.
I finally saw ‘The Intouchables’ on your rec (Thanks Anderson), and want some more great movies like that to watch with my family.

  7. I’m listening to a Film Vault from many weeks ago in which B & A talked about the conspiracy theories that surrounded his vacation to Italy and THE OOOOUTRAAAAAGE that stirred as a result.
“He took MAH MONEY TO GO TO ONE OF THEM FAGGOT EUROPEAN COUNTRIES”… or whatever.
Bryan is cracking me the eff up with “how do we even know that I have a tumor anyway? It’s never been proven. How does anyone know that I’m not just conning them with this cancer scam?… It’s quite lucrative. (sniff)”
Bryan, please try to do more hypothetical conspiracy theory ramblings– it’s funny as shit.

  9. Nomination for Anderson’s Egregious Error of the Week:

In “Post Tenebras Lux,” the “s” in “Tenebras” should be pronounced. I think Anderson was trying to make it French by pronouncing it “Tenebrah,” but it’s Latin for “Light After Darkness” (lit. “Light After the Shadows”).

Maybe not “egregious,” but annoying to a certain brand of nerd…

  11. Love the show, but i must point out a minor annoyance. On the Film Vault, Bryan refers to being on the “Carolla show”. On the Carolla show, he refers to being on “another podcast”. I wonder if this a personal or professional choice.

    • I’d put money on Carolla banning it as well.

    • I have heard him mention The Film Vault by name a few times since they left ACE network. No promotion or anything though, so I am sure Carolla or Mike August asked him not to talk about TFV since they didn’t have a very amicable separation.

    • Definitely annoying. Though, with the ongoing lawsuit between Donny & Carolla, I believe that any podcast that Donny helped to kill off is pretty much legally forbidden from being discussed on air (including ‘Daves of Thunder’ and ‘Spider & The Henchmen’). With all of Dameshek’s appearances, he doesn’t discuss ‘Daves’ on ACS, though he did once discuss it on ARIYNBF and in depth on TFV…

  12. So “Best Bet” = Least likely to win the most money? That’s really confusing. But not surprised Bryan is into this since his favorite film vocab word is “High Concept”.

  13. “Saving Mr. Banks will definitely get Oscar nominations, so we should watch it anyway.”
Bryan, was this another non-pick, non-prediction thing? … ’cause you’re wrong again.
(unless “Best Score” qualifies… which it doesn’t)

  14. Love the film vault. It’s one of the best podcasts and unquestionably the best one on movies.

Anderson is right. The show might benefit from a standard tune or sting at the opening. If I had been tuning in for the first time this week, I might have never gotten past the intro simply because the music wasn’t to my taste, which would be unfortunate since the podcast isn’t even about music and then I’d be missing out on The Film Vault.

I also think Bryan has a point. I still enjoy the Sundance preview episodes, but they are frustrating because, unless you go to Sundance or live in Los Angeles, it’s all about films you will probably never have the opportunity to see. Even if you do live in Los Angeles you might never have the chance to see some of titles discussed in this episode because it’s a preview episode and some of the anticipated films will turn out to be crappy.

Film Vault – yeah, Film Vault!
