  2. Anderson was wondering what people in Oakland think about SF being “the city”. They actually embrace it and they’ve long called Oakland “the town”.

(thus completes my whitest-sounding post of all time)

    • You’re not going to fall for the banana in the tailpipe? It should be more natural, brother, it should flow out, like this: “A-Dog axed if O-bros be trippin cuz peeps be frontin dat San Fran be da man but Boys be huggin it out cuz O-Town is the bomb – true dat” You been listening to the Film Vault too long.

  4. Can’t believe Anderson liked Prince Avalanche. I thought it was pretentious hipster garbage and I had hoped he would see through it. Saw it at the Seattle International Film Festival and even the snobs there were looking like they had just wasted their time as they walked out of the theater. The Emile Hirsch character is borderline-mentally challenged and I just couldn’t laugh at his broad caricature of a low-IQ sex addict. The cinematography was awesome and the music from Explosions in the Sky was great, but other than that the movie was a complete bore. The fact that Anderson’s example of the humor was Emile Hirsch saying “Oh man, farts?” pretty much explains why this movie sucked.

    • glad to hear it’s as awful as I thought it probably would be…I saw the original flick that it was “inspired by”..and it was one of the most boring pointless movies or “films” I had ever seen…but I did think, upon seeing the trailer for the american vision of the same thing, that …it’d be right up hipster alleys…

  6. I’m about to watch The Square. I sort of like this sort of ‘homework’. It would be neat to have this every week, a streaming movie that you two lads could tell us to watch and us, the listeners that PAY YOUR SALARY, could then listen along the next week and either agree or disagree with your review or at the very least could follow along.

You could call the segment something corny like “Hey, we’re watching over here!”

Thanks for all you do, honestly. Sometimes life gets real tough and we need humor. You guys provide it for me, at least. In seventeen years I might send you cicadas (After Disaster reference).

    • I like that idea, and since the movie was assigned, no “spoiler” bitching. Everyone is on the same page!

      • I concur …Every week should have a “listener” assignment that matches at least one of the Doofuses anticipated flick-fessions. That way we can, as Andy likes to say, call these two critics on their shit.

  7. This is my favorite podcast and you guys are the most entertaining hosts of any movie related programming. I must say that when Anderson suffers his white guilt, it does pulls me out of the show. I have taken to skipping past all of the related review.

  8. I agree with Brian on Philomena. Went into it thinking it was homework and really enjoyed it. Its a really well told interesting story. Not a movie you have to see in the theater but definitely worth watching.

Same thing happened to me with another Oscar nom Judy Dench movie a few years back called “notes on a scandal”

I am fairly sensitive to motion sickness so i spent the last 45 min of “captain Phillips” in the back of the theater nauseated, i could only listen at that point.
I think Paul Greengrass only hires cameramen who have Parkinson’s.

This has happened to be in every Paul Greengrass film, i didn’t know it was him going in and about an hour in i though “this is fucking Greengrass isn’t it”

The worst part is its his signature shaky cam ON TOP OF being on a boat the whole time!!!

I guess the sad part is i was really enjoying the movie but didn’t get to fully experience the ending.

  11. Have you guys seen “Computer Chess” yet? The hipsters at The AV Club.com made it one of the top 5 movies of 2013. It is streaming on Netflix right now.

  12. Can you guys go back to “meat and POTatoes”?? I love your show but what’s next: “Top five Tom Hanks movies that have two words in the title that aren’t Forrest Gump and the green mile doesn’t count because technically it has the word THE in it” ??
