Look at any film, even films that you love and even films with great nuanced side characters (Like the Coen Brothers). They always have roles like that. Look at the credits of ANY movie good or bad for evidence. Even movies that you love. (Vanilla Sky, Drive, Indiana Jones, Transformers.) Anyway, just joining the rage train.

It -especially Anderson’s recs- turned me on to some good flicks. I basically tolerated Bryan’s asinine reviews and his retarded pet peeves …”oh this dude is too old to be in high school” (no shit!) “oh they will not have flying cars in 2020” (who gives a shit. it’s a movie…it could be set in any time!)…and thank God we do not get many “Better with Beihn” segments. But now with the insane argument and waste of breath over the name of a nameless character in the credits??!! WTF man? Pointing to that as lazy writing is not a valid opinion. It’s plain wrong. This might be the podcast that gets me to unsubscribe.

Also to mark down a movie because of the credits is being picky. If he didn’t enjoy or like the movie that’s fine not every movie is for everybody but to say that the credits were not correct is just being anal. But after reading this we’re probably all wrong and he is right just like he was with the Big Lebowski

Also, regarding “The Other F-Word,” it felt like the director knew or had connection with these guys, hence the random assortment. I feel like U.S. Bombs is a fairly famous band, at least with 90’s era “punkers” (cringe). The one that didn’t seem to fit was Everclear and his terrible song. Blink 182 is a punk band whether you like it or not. Fat Mike seemed like a douche.

Gary died shortly after the movie finished. In my opinion this movie is much better than prince avalanche and mud.

If you give unnecessary description to a character you are limiting the director or actors choices. Also if their name is never uttered they are required to be credited based on the definable character trait (I.e. cop) not physical trait (I.e. cop with scar). Quit being an anal douche and either take more film classes or work on films then maybe you could make a genuine and intelligent argument on your production pet peeves.

Most screenwriting teachers don’t even want you to suggest *music* in the screenplay: “That’s all the DIRECTOR’S job.”
As you and a couple of people have noted, that argument illustrated the difference between someone who attended film school (Anderson) and an outsider. Anderson very rarely plays the “I went to film school” card, though.

Its amazing that you don’t know how it works. If a movie has a 90% rating, it is not because every reviewer is saying “wow this is a great movie A+”. Its an average. If 100 reviewers write about a movie, and 90% of them give it a positive review, that would give it a 90% rating. Thats it. It could be that those 90% are saying its awesome. It could be they are saying its OK.
So when Bryan says “Captain America is good, I would put it in the ‘good’ column” that means, if he was a certified reviewer on RT, that he would be ADDING to its score. If you write a heavily critical review, but then say “this is a good movie, despite its flaws” you have written a positive review in RT’s mind. Cut it out with this stuff.

Posted by someguy | April 21, 2014, 12:11 AMI feel as if both Anderson and Bryan were too against the other’s position on credited roles. Right off i was fully on Anderson’s side however as the discussion progressed and Anderson dug in further and further I started to feel as if Bryan had a point.
I think as with all things context is necessary.
If a cop says some one off line like “Stop, Police!” or a protester in a crowd says “Screw, you pig!” then we understand the context (merely by viewing the scene) and no back story/explanation is necessary to understand these characters and their role in the film. If that’s their entire role throughout the movie is one scene or one line i think it’s reasonable to leave out a specific title beyond ‘Cop 1, 2, etc’
On the other hand in the world of movies no one, no matter how modest, is going to prefer ‘Dead Man 2’ or ‘Woman in meeting’ over someone with an actual name, So I think most credit writers do their best to appease the actors while still being realistic to the general audience’s understanding of who’s who.
plus I would wager more than half of today’s movie-going audiences know what IMDb is and can search if they truly need to know who ‘Cop 1’ is or where he/she was in the movie.

He’s a studious eagle scout who minds his father. Second, those were treasure hunters he “stole” the cross from, NOT legitimate archaeologists (hence the repeated phrase “It belongs in a museum”). The reasons the police made him give it back are A) it’s 1915 (or whenever) and there probably were no laws to protect antiquities, and/or B) The man they dug it up for paid the police to look the other way. Am i the only one who saw it this way?

This episode was yet another show in which the listeners’ top 5 list was infinitely better than the hosts’ top 5. Maybe they should just start the show with the listeners’ top 5.
I hate to be Mr. Negativity, but Anderson, you seemed as if you were an old man when you referred to the girls in “Spring Breakers” as juvenile delinquents. Their characters were all at least twenty, which is hardly “juvenile” in my book. Watch out, buddy. Those jowls that you hate so much might start forming on you soon.
