My first thought when Bryan was making his ridiculous proclamation that Robin Williams was the first big star to do a voice in a cartoon Disney movie was, “What about The Rescuers?” Bob Newhart was the voice of the main character and he had arguably the most popular sitcom on television at the time of the movie’s release in 1977, and is widely regarded as one of the best comedians of all time. Not to mention the fact that starring opposite him in The Rescuers was Eva Gabor, a big star in her own right. And then, to top it off, how about the sequel some 13 years later which had those two PLUS John Candy at his height, and George C. Scott? The Rescuers Down Under came out in 1990, two years before Aladdin.
I get what Bryan is trying to say about the impact that Robin Williams had as the voice of Genie, but it was lost in his eagerness to make it sound as if he came to this conclusion well before anyone had ever thought of it. I’m not saying my above examples had near the impact Robin Williams did, but they were all very big stars who did what he did before he did it. And that was just one example off the top of my head.

World according to Garp was also a good movie I still remember parts of it to this day which is usually a good sign, And you’re still mis-pronouncing Domhnall Gleeson’s name

Posted by liamscott8172 | August 26, 2014, 5:19 AMNot to pick Bryan’s nits too much, but Robin Williams was actually also a voice actor in FernGully (released before Aladdin, in April 1992). Other stars like Christian Slater and Tim Curry were in FernGully as well, so Bryan’s theory that Williams-as-Genie totally changed the casting landscape of animated films isn’t entirely on point.
Either way, he was awesome. RIP Robin Williams

I should have clarified that it’s really rare for a big Hollywood movie like Mrs Doubtfire to not have a main antagonist. Obviously this is more common in smaller, indie-type features (Garden State, Locke, etc).
