I am surprised that TO SIR, WITH LOVE didn’t make the list. Sidney Poitier was a great teacher. The movie also featured a hit song by Lu Lu.

Bryan has never seen Summer School?

Ya I’m glad Trick ‘r Treat is getting some mention. Watch it around Halloween and it puts you in the perfect mood for whatever you’re doing that night. Maybe this doesn’t work for functional people who have jobs, but for college kids like me it gets you in the mood to get weird. And it’s pretty creepy, and deconstructed narratives are always fun.

Anderson, I thought you might pull through with Kitano-sensei from Battle Royale, played by Takeshi Kitano, better known in America as Beat Takeshi!

Although his part was pretty small, Sam Kinnison in “Back To School” was hilarious.

What happed to the rated R discription reason movie game?
I believe both “the conversation” and “fury” are way better then was given credit. The conversation is fantastic! and in a world full of ww2 movies and war movies in genral “Fury” along with great battle scenes has a very unique perspective on war.
And yes make Bryan watch “irreversible”, it does have a few very graphic scenes but don’t let that distract you from the fact that its an amazing movie. At the very least an incredibly impressive technical achievement in cinematography on many levels.

“Fury” was mostly shit. Anderson and Bryan didn’t elaborate about the house scene with the two German women. They just stated that it was odd that the soldiers seemed to disrespect the hell out of Pitt’s character. It also went on faaaarrrr too long. It was one of the few times when I agreed 100% with Anderson’s analysis: that insanely long scene derailed the whole film, and it never recovered from it. It went on so long that I started to believe that they were just going to shift the focus entirely away from the war and toward the domestication of two or more soldiers for the rest of the film. It was just horrible.
I understood what the director and screenwriter were attempting to convey when they made it. It just doesn’t work. It also made me feel sick about Pitt’s character. To paraphrase him, “if you don’t fuck her I will.”
Was EVERYONE in that tank aside from the kid a fucking psycho?

Time for some pedantry, because i just can’t let it go. Synecdoche, as in the movie title “Synecdoche, New York” is not pronounced like Schenectady, the city in New York, and it’s certainly not pronounced “sin-ek-DOASH.” It’s pronounced “sin-EK-do-kee”, and it means to use a part of something to describe the whole thing. Yes, similar to metonymy. The only connection synecdoche has to Schenectady is the similar sound of the word, making “Synecdoche, New York” a bad pun.

At least 75% of K – 12 teachers are women. No women in your list!
What about Anne Bancroft as Anne Sullivan. She won and academy award for the part.
Laura Dern as the science teacher in October Sky. A true story. She was dying of cancer but inspired poor kids from WV to study science and become NASA scientists.
Or Debra Kerr in The King and I – nominated for and academy award.
And as for men, what about Sidney Poitier in To Sir with Love.
From, an old female listener.

I need to add that my complaint about the lack of female teachers in the list reflects a problem in hollywood not entirely a problem in anderson and bryan’s list. It seems that hollywood makes 10 movies about male teachers for every one about female teachers. Especially when they are making the “inspirational” teacher movie.

As a late teen in 1987, the best part of “Summer School” is Courtney Thorne-Smith!
