I kept waiting for it to reveal the movie as an extended SNL skit, with awkward timing and limp jokes. But it never did. That’s a low bar, I know, but one that most “comedies” can’t clear these days without Todd Phillips’s heavy hand.

I really think he and the person he is quoting really missed the mark with the “happy ending” of Schindler’s list, The story is about Schindler’s transformation from war profiteer to humanitarian. At the end of the movie even though everyone is saying “you are so great” he personally can’t except that because he knows there is nothing he could have done to make up for the horrors of the Holocaust. Any single scrap of wealth he had could have been traded in for a human life and now that the war is over, he has to live with that for the rest of his life. To me that is not an “everything is great” conclusion.
