  1. Anderson, please tell me you didn’t skim over Peter Sellers as a yesteryear “Jim Carrey-like” star that you didn’t get? Peter Sellers’ subtle humor was hilarious – impeccably timed – and the Pink Panther themed movies were just a lame vehicle for Sellers (my Dad took me also and I loved his humor and likewise the cartoons, but more so the women in some) – so far from Mr. Bean – Bryan – so ridiculously far. Bean might be like a Jim Carrey – a B-movie hack in my opinion, but never Peter Sellers – who’d qualify in a league with Paul Rudd or Steve Carrel – A listers.

    • Screw sellers. Mr. Bean, real name Rowan Atkinson is a brilliant act. I highly doubt you’re familiar with his work beyond the amusing but not his best Mr. Bean.

      • I know about Black Adder and I get how Bean’s homogenized for American tastes, but Sellers didn’t need schtick like Bean or a vehicle like Monty Python – his dead panned looks of confusion were what made him genius and curiously all of his movies were great unlike every comedian and their flops.

  2. The Amazon reads are getting ridiculously long. This one is 8 mins long…what happened to reading the interesting ones? How about read the weird ones and the big ticket ones? I click through but I don’t need to hear that I bought a pair of socks…

  3. Well, I guess I have to leave a comment since Bryan quoted me several times this episode! That was a pleasant suprise…I stand corrected, would have sworn Bryan was a film major. Glad he watched two great films (Strangelove, Annie Hall) and even think Bryan took time for some really quality choices (would have put money down on him having Michel Biehn – Biehn! – as his top choice.)

Not that you need validation, but good job! For a topic I thought would fail miserably, this was a great episode.

  4. Did anyone else find it bizarre that Anderson listed almost every Jeffrey Wright film ever made, except the one film for which he actually received real Oscar buzz — Shaft? He was the best thing in that movie, and really elevated the role of “bad guy in dumb action move.”

  5. It’s incredible that this show is entertaining when both(plus Logan) are so unlikeable… Keep up the good work?

  11. The Steve Buscemi and Martin Sheen mentions blew my mind. I didn’t know.
I thought about two more that no one mentioned as I listened to the show: Michael Keaton and Jeff Goldblum.

I lmao’ed at Anderson’s story about the Sheen family. He did a good impression of Martin Sheen’s stern voice.
“You realize that you almost killed us, right?”

    • just noticed that Goldblum won a meaningless Academy Award for a short film… that was on TV… which doesn’t count

Trivia about Keaton: he was considered an outstanding stand up comic, and always killed at The Comedy Store. The ancient comics tell me that if he had not quit comedy to pursue acting he would have been considered one of the best stand ups ever.

  12. I did not hate last week’s episode, but I am blind to my love of you guys. Luckily both of your interupting of each cancels out the others interupting. If that makes sense. I look forward to Anderson’s Flick-fession next week and like Bryan, I’ve never seen a Woody Allen film myself.
Congrats on the big announcement, Bryan!

    • I honestly didn’t hate last weeks episode either. My gripe was on somethingelse that Anderson said that really bothered me. Like I think it is funny when Bryan slips Transformers in when talking about classic films. Hey he’s taking a shot back at everyone. My criricisms from last weeks thread remain valid though.

  13. Just listening to the Gifts for Films episode and wanted to mention that the spoilers in ‘Mentally Ill Characters’ by Bland Brian were legion! I’ve asked Logie on twitter if there’s a version of the show WITHOUT Brien’s comments. This is the way I normally listen by fast forwarding the show when he’s on but when I’m distracted I sometimes get an awful earful of mumbling. Doing this I miss some of the excellent comebacks by Anderson.

I’d pay for a monthly subscription if a version like this existed or if Anderson buys out Bryan and hooks up with someone I could simply hate instead of the current feelings I have for Anderson’s sidekick.

  14. Now Bryan there was no reason to ever apologize for not having seen any Woody Allen films. I haven’t. I put a ban on both Woody Allen and Bond.
